Sitting with her back to the world, Alpnhaus is an award winning, luxurious off grid mountain chalet, here at Singdean.

Just for two, you are the only guests here.

A self catering, adult only, dog friendly getaway for two with a wood fired hot tub.
It is so much more than what we could have hoped for - amazingly cosy and warm and beautifully luxurious

Sitting here with the breeze stirring the boughs of the pine trees, the bees frantically working through early Summer sunshine and the birds singing in delight and dancing on the wing….Really, there is no place I'd rather be. The majesty of Northumberland and the honesty of The Borders, the way that you can witness the movement of the land through the millennia. It opens my hearts and makes me feel safe and small. Thank you and thank you again.

Thanks for the most relaxing mini break we have ever experienced, my husband has had the best nights sleep he's had in 15 years. A beautiful place to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary.

Our traditional Alpine mountain breakfast is placed in a hamper outside of your door for you to enjoy together. Should you still be asleep, don't worry - we won't wake you.

The breakfast is just as magic as the chalet. I wish we had longer to stay, but we will be back

Thank you for a wonderful two days relaxing in Alpnhaus. I sit at the breakfast table writing this, looking out to the stillness of the tree line, quiet after the contrasting storms of Saturday. The birds are active on the feeder now and the mists rising from the damp and cool land. It is a place you can slow down and watch and listen……such rare things in our normal working lives.

An amazing stay in the beautiful Alpnhaus. From the amazing smells to the cosy hot tub with our favourite view, The perfect setting for a few very special days to us.

You may see our resident owls or deer whilst in the hot tub. Or see the hare scampering around, or the badger snuffling away.

Can we enjoy the hot tub in Winter?

Yes, absolutely! During the Winter months, the stars and Milky Way can astound you or you may get to enjoy the feeling of sitting out in the hot tub with fresh snow falling silently around.

Alpnhaus is placed on a rugged hillside surrounded by hills and valleys with streams and waterfalls. Our 'garden' has a large wildlife pond which attracts so much wild life - from frogs to dragonflies to herons.

Deer, foxes, stoats and badges are also frequent visitors. And just beyond the garden, we have seen otters. We also have resident barn and tawny owls.

Alongside all of this wilderness comes weather! And we get it all! Alpnhaus has been hand made by us with a lot of love, masses of local larch, a large pinch of creativity, some help and a heap of dedication. It took just over a year, although it has been many years in the making.

  • We are off grid - please do not bring hairdryers / hair straighteners or anything else with a heating or cooling element.

  • Dogs are free with prior arrangement, a maximum of 2 dogs in Alpnhaus
  • Mobile coverage can be patchy. The best one is EE, you should get full signal
  • Terms and Conditions
  • Hot tub usage
  • If you have limited mobility, we do not recommend the hot tub
  • Very occasionally, the weather may prove too dangerous to use the hot tub, especially high winds and thunder storms. We will advise when this is the case. If there is a weather warning of any kind, the hot tub will not be available.
  • During the winter months, we sometimes get a lot of snow. We often get asked what the road is like during the winter months. We have been snowed in but usually the road is kept clear and useable. We would recommend that you have winter tyres as, as we are quite high, we get snow here when a couple of miles away down the hill it will be rain.
  • Once you get here, it is warm and cosy inside and quite magical out.
